Thank you Pattonville!

Our final Special Olympics event of the year was completed today as the rain held off and all the events were completed.  The Pattonville staff and students did a wonderful job of supplying entertainment, good food, and their friendship.  It is greatly appreciated by all of us at Northview.  Everyone at Northview and Pattonville is invited to comment here about their experiences today.  Don't forget to mention your buddy's name (or the student's if you are from Pattonville) and reflect on this day we shared together.   The end of the school year is near, so we wish everyone a fun and safe summer vacation.

Fun Day At Hazelwood West

We had a beautiful day at Hazelwood West for our track and field meet.  They supplied us with tasty food from the bar-b-que pit and our students met new friends at during the competition.  They have some fast runners, don't they?  Many of our students received recognition over the loudspeaker for excellent performances in the event.  Thanks to all our staff for your assistance in making this another great event for Northview School.  Also, thanks to everyone at Hazelwood West for being a top notch host.

Two Special Olympics Events Left!

As the school year nears the end, we only have a couple more Special Olympics events on our calender, both in track and field.  First, on Thursday May 7, at Hazelwood West, then on Wednesday May 13 at Pattonville.  Both schools do an excellent job hosting these events and all our students always enjoy their experience.  And those of you who attended last year may remember that both schools grilled hamburgers and hotdogs for us.  What a treat that was!  Tino and I would like to know what Special Olympics event was the favorite of each student.  If you participated in our intramural competitions such as flag football, pickleball, etc, pick out your favorite and explain why.  You can come up and tell us but we'd also like you to respond the next time you read this blog.

Coach Frank
You did a wonderful job this school year at Northview.  Thanks for taking the extra time and finding new and exciting things for our students.  The fishing was a wonderful experience for them all.

Thanks Dorsey
Coach  Frank   tried to  teach me to swim. But I  sank like a rock.  Thank Coach  LEERON

Dear, Coach Frank  Thank you for taking me swimming and I learned how to swim.  Katarina

Thank You

You are a good P.E teacher. You have taught me a lot. You told me to have faith in what ever sports we have played. Mostly the archery, basketball and also fishing because I wasn't catching any fish. Than I started to catch some fish. I was happy. You're one of my favorite teachers. I like to have P.E with you. You really make me happy when I come in the P.E. room. I'm glad you're our P.E teacher.

My Favorite Coach

Mr. Frank you have helped me by just being there for me. You also have helped be a better student by when I'm upset you say just the right words that calm me down. You motivate me in so many different ways. One way is by pushing me to the limit when I'm not energized. You have a vibrant aura that surrounds you. You are a special person in my life. You inspire me to be a better person. You always talk to me when I'm not in the best of moods. You are a honest person. It's always a pleasure to be around you.

Little Leagues (Northview)

I really like the coach because he has taught me how to hit a "mad ball." Coach Frank is a really good coach because he is patient and understanding. If you don't know certain things that he is teaching he makes a right away turn to teach you. One thing coach always says is that "if you don't try it is impossible to fail," that was always pertaining to the game that we were playing. He is very active when we play baseball and he always tries his hardest to get me out. When we had the other coaches they were fun also but because they were getting older they were not very active as Coach Frank. He has let us experience the important history of every game we played.

A GREAT COACH!!!

I like Coach Frank. He's helped me stay active and he's cheered us up when we were either down or had a negative attitude. He is also a very nice, and funny coach. I like having him around and I'm thankful for a coach like him.

Love Always,
LeAnne Howard
Brian  Hogan: I think coach Frank is a great gym teacher. He is creative when it comes too making a fun game for the students to play.He has a good sense of humor. He is very fair too all of his students. He doesn't show favoritism towards the students. He watches what he eats Ha Ha Ha!! because of corse he's the all time greatest coach at North view school a BIG shout out to him.
PE is fun and I like when the coaches help us out in certain sports.  I like it when we do basketball.  They are some great teachers  Ed Scales
Dear Coaches, I have fun being in your class, when we go on special olympics, I like challenging myself in the games that they have.  I especially like basketball, soccer, kickball, archery, fishing and softball.  Andrew Williams
Northview got a gem, when Coach Frank joined our team.  He had a hard act to follow.  Both PE coaches before him had each held the position for at least 25 years.  I especially like the new activities he has brought to Northview.  Archery and Fishing to name a few.  Coach Frank is fair, resourceful and always puts the students first.  It is a pleasure to have him on our staff.  JWG
Coach Frank is a great coach and teacher here at Northview.  I enjoy watching Coach Frank teach the students new activities and watching the little kid come out in him.  My favorite activity was being able to play Flag Football against the students.

"Doing your best is more important that being the best."

The above quote shows the philosophy of all our physical education classes at Northview School. You will participate in many activities and sports you may be familiar with, but you will often be introduced to lessons that may be unfamiliar. When that occurs, it's normal to feel a bit uncomfortable learning new skills. That's when you focus on doing your best, not being the best. As you gain experience in a new activity, there will be a noticeable improvement in your skill level for that actitivy. Sticking with it is the key. A perfect example was our archery unit. Many of you had never shot a bow before but the improvement throughout our classes from week to week was impressive. Some of you said "I can't" at the beginning, then proceeded to do it quite well. All because you stuck with it and didn't give up. Don't quit when something frustrates you, just keep doing your best. One of our goals in the PE department involves exposing our Northview students to as many different physical activities as possible with a focus on learning how to stay physically active throughout a lifetime. This includes a wide range of lessons in our physical education classes - some that make you sweat and some that are a bit more relaxing. Coach Tino and I welcome input from all our students about the experiences you've had in PE class. Each week there will be new posts on this blog and we hope you take the time to respond. Together, we can make your Northview physical education experiences productive and memorable.

So, to those of you who read this first blog, and since this it is near the end of the school year, Tino and I would like to hear student (and teacher) feedback about the favorite Northview PE experience this year.

Note: Creating this blog is a new experience for me as a result of an assignment I must complete at the University of Missouri-St. Louis (UMSL). I am not the most technologically advanced person so putting this together is a challenge for me. It may not be the best blog out there, but I am doing my best at compiling it. So even old dogs like me can learn new tricks. You can, too.
