"Doing your best is more important that being the best."

The above quote shows the philosophy of all our physical education classes at Northview School. You will participate in many activities and sports you may be familiar with, but you will often be introduced to lessons that may be unfamiliar. When that occurs, it's normal to feel a bit uncomfortable learning new skills. That's when you focus on doing your best, not being the best. As you gain experience in a new activity, there will be a noticeable improvement in your skill level for that actitivy. Sticking with it is the key. A perfect example was our archery unit. Many of you had never shot a bow before but the improvement throughout our classes from week to week was impressive. Some of you said "I can't" at the beginning, then proceeded to do it quite well. All because you stuck with it and didn't give up. Don't quit when something frustrates you, just keep doing your best. One of our goals in the PE department involves exposing our Northview students to as many different physical activities as possible with a focus on learning how to stay physically active throughout a lifetime. This includes a wide range of lessons in our physical education classes - some that make you sweat and some that are a bit more relaxing. Coach Tino and I welcome input from all our students about the experiences you've had in PE class. Each week there will be new posts on this blog and we hope you take the time to respond. Together, we can make your Northview physical education experiences productive and memorable.

So, to those of you who read this first blog, and since this it is near the end of the school year, Tino and I would like to hear student (and teacher) feedback about the favorite Northview PE experience this year.

Note: Creating this blog is a new experience for me as a result of an assignment I must complete at the University of Missouri-St. Louis (UMSL). I am not the most technologically advanced person so putting this together is a challenge for me. It may not be the best blog out there, but I am doing my best at compiling it. So even old dogs like me can learn new tricks. You can, too.
